Part I: Both Puerto Vallarta and Los Cabos each offer totally unique vacation experiences for those looking for something new and different for their next Mexico beach escape. Air lift has improved significantly and a wide variety of resort hotels, from moderate to ultra-luxury, EP to All-Inclusive, adults only to family-friendly, have popped up in recent years – making these destinations more affordable and more accessible than ever before. There’s nothing quite as spectacular as a sunset viewed from the Pacific coastline…absolutely mesmerizing! Sports enthusiasts will be in heaven – you’ll find water sports galore, big game fishing and some of the most challenging and breathtakingly beautiful golf courses in the world. Whale-watching is an absolute must-do if you’re planning to visit during the winter months when the humpback whales are a common sight in the centuries old breeding grounds and resting places off the Mexican Pacific coastline, following their annual migration from the northern Bering waters. The food is fantastic – the climate near perfect – and the downtown areas are picturesque and charged with an upscale kind of party atmosphere. Both destinations, although different, should most definitely go on your “bucket list” of places to visit in Mexico!!
PUERTO VALLARTA / RIVIERA NAYARIT The seaside town of Puerto Vallarta is divided into several primary tourist areas all situated around beautiful Banderas Bay: Old Town Vallarta, the “Boardwalk”, hotel zones north and south of downtown, Marina Vallarta and the new resort area north of Puerto Vallarta, Riviera Nayarit (Nuevo Vallarta) and Punta Mita on the northernmost tip of Banderas Bay where the focus is luxury in harmony with nature with an authentic Mexican ambience. The “boardwalk” area, also referred to as “Malecón Avenue”, is a pedestrian walkway located along the ocean in downtown Vallarta. Souvenir shops and small restaurants and cafes are located in this area as well as the popular art district which offers “art walks” every Wednesday from Oct-April.
Puerto Vallarta’s famous Our Lady of Guadalupe Cathedral, one of the most photographed churches in Mexico, is located in the town square, where local artists display their works surrounded by intimate cafes. Five to ten minutes further south of this area is the Romantic area. The Romantic area encompasses several blocks of authentic cobblestone streets and is the perfect spot for an evening stroll. Try one of the local beachfront restaurants or enjoy one of the many bars and nightclubs located in this area.
Puerto Vallarta is a very diverse destination and truly offers something for everyone from traditional Mexican culture to outstanding golf courses to high-energy night spots to adventure treks in the surrounding Sierra Madres. Hotels are as varied as the visitors who return year after year to experience the charm of “Vallarta”. From adults only havens like Villa Premier located right in the downtown area with its own strip of golden beach and the lively Golden Crown Paradise, to hotels welcoming families with children like the Crown Paradise, Marival Grand and two popular Dreams resorts. If luxury is what you’re looking for look no further than the fabulous Four Seasons Punta Mita on the northern tip of Banderas Bay or the all-inclusive Grand Velas all suite resort with its magnificent spa and fine dining. For affordable luxury, the modern all-inclusive Vallarta Palace in Riviera Nayarit with its expansive meandering pool is hard to beat. Whether novice or seasoned traveler, Puerto Vallarta is a perfect mix of rest and fun, activity and tranquility. Active or relaxed, family vacation or a romantic escape, or hot nighttime fun for singles and couples ¬- whatever your preference is, Puerto Vallarta has it all!

We have been to Puerto Vallarta twice - once on a cruise and once to an all-inclusive resort we booked through Vacation Express. Puerto Vallarta is a great place to visit, because there is such a variety of things to do. We took a jungle tour and saw where Terminator was filmed and really enjoyed it. But just relaxing on the beach is great too!
