Follow Kathy Davis on her 4 night girl’s getaway trip to the popular Dreams Riviera Cancun all-inclusive resort: "The resort was close to the airport, only about 15 minutes or so, and about one and a half miles to Puerto Morelos, which is a small fishing town. The day we arrived it was pouring rain by the time we had lunch and got our luggage so we took umbrellas (provided by the hotel and conveniently placed all around the resort) to town to do some shopping. The taxi fare was $9 each way to Puerto Morelos. The town was very cute and small with a few shops, a craft market and some restaurants and bars located around a central plaza. It’s a nice town with plenty of opportunities to do snorkeling tours, fishing and sailing. The world’s second largest barrier reef is located just off shore, and we did some great snorkeling while we were there.
We had some concerns about this being a “family” resort but the kids that were there never bothered us. From what I heard most of the kids were begging to stay at the kids club all day, which was fine with us!
There were three pools which all seemed to be set up either more for kids (shallow, ping-pong table) or adults (swim-up bar) or activities (volleyball net, aerobics). The “adults” pool was an infinity pool right on the beach so it was a great place to relax on a float, provided by the resort of course!
There were plenty of lounge chairs when we were there so no towel games were going on. They had at least three different kinds of lounge chairs, some beach rocking chairs and our favorite - an oversized round wicker cushioned bed with tons of pillows. We called this our lily pad and parked ourselves there every day.
The resort was a perfect size, not too big, and the layout was really nice. Most of the restaurants were located up by the lobby along with the disco and the kids club. The lobby was gorgeous, very tropical and comfortable. It was definitely the place to be after dinner and they had nice low-key entertainment like a magician, band or karaoke. I definitely recommend the coconut or purple rain martini.
Now for the most important part - the food! Everything was great. The breakfast buffet had anything you could every want. We did room service once for breakfast which only took half an hour to arrive and was delicious. At lunch we only ate at Seaside/ Oceana which is located right at the pool and operates as one restaurant during the day and I think separates into two a la carte restaurants at night. We recommend the grouper civeche and catch of the day. Jairo was our waiter every day at lunch and he was fantastic."
