Are you ready for turkey, tanning lotion and tropical cocktails? The holiday and New Year’s festivities are almost upon us and many of you are looking forward to your vacation to the sun. Being one of the busiest times of the year to fly, we're keen for you to avoid the stress holiday travel can often bring, so your vacation can begin the moment you arrive at the airport. Here are some tips to make sure your holiday getaway has a smooth start. You can even think of it as a helpful list to check off each item as it is completed before you jet off to the sun. Happy Holidays!
1) As this is the busiest time of year for travel you should allow extra time for traffic, check-in and security. Leave early to ensure you arrive at the airport in plenty of time to make your flight. 2) Try to avoid driving to the airport by having a friend or relative drop you off; otherwise, take public transport, a shuttle, or a taxi. If you have to drive, gas up the car the night before you travel so you don't have to make a stop on the journey to the airport. 3) Don't wrap your gifts until after you arrive at your destination, as airport security personnel may wish to open them for inspection. Metallic wrapping paper appears solid during airport screening and security staff will want to inspect the gift. Avoid the hassle by wrapping your gifts when you arrive at your hotel instead. 4) Fully charge your cell phone before you leave and write down all essential contact numbers. Should you experience a delay on a Vacation Express package, refer to your travel documents for emergency contact numbers. We can be contacted to provide assistance during office hours on 1-800-309-4717 (Mon – Fri 8:30am-7:00pm ET; Sat 10:00am–4:00pm ET; & Sun, 11:00am–4:00pm ET). 5) To avoid the boredom of lengthy lines and delays bring plenty to keep you and your family busy – ipods, books, magazines, drinks and snacks will all help make the time in line pass faster. 6) Be aware of your airline's baggage weight limits and adhere to them to avoid charges. Following changes in several airlines checked baggage weight policies, exceeding the weight limit can be costly and is best avoided. Take a lightweight tote bag to split items if you are over the weight limit and either take it on board as hand luggage or check it in as a second bag. 7) Carry essentials, including an ample supply of any medications you use, in your hand luggage. You never know when your baggage will be delayed or otherwise separated from you and it may take several days before you are reunited with your belongings.
