No matter what our age, we never get too old to collect seashells! Picking them up is irresistible when you see their beautiful designs glinting in the sun. But what happens when we get home? By then, the sheen is long gone and we are left with shining memories but dull shells that no longer seem worthy of displaying.

Fortunately, it is incredibly easy to restore (and maintain) that shine that moved you to pick up the shell in the first place! Let us show you how in just five easy steps.

What you’ll need:

  • Bleach
  • Water
  • Bucket
  • Toothbrush (the firmer the better)
  • Mineral oil
  • A soft cloth

Step 1:
Combine one part bleach with three parts water in a bucket

Step 2:
Let your shells soak in the bleach mixture for a couple hours

Step 3:
Remove the shells and rinse with water while brushing with a firm toothbrush

Step 4:
Rub the shells with mineral oil using a soft cloth

Step 5:
Enjoy your beautiful shells!

Bonus tips:

  • While you are still at the beach, rub the shells with wet sand to “exfoliate” them.
  • Don’t use baby oil or olive oil on your shells- after a while it will cause them to stink!
