Celebrating the Cancún – Riviera Maya Food & Wine Festival 2016

wff2016 marks the fifth year celebrating the vibrant fine-dining scene of Mexico with the CancúnRiviera Maya Food & Wine Festival. The festival spans five days at the end of April and will be host to 15 not-to-be-missed events from tribute dinners to gourmet espresso tastings!

Headquartered in some of Mexico’s finest hotels, this year’s festival is ready to surpass the previous four years in number of participants, variety of events and most exclusive guest chefs from across the world.

The two events that anchor this year’s festival are the two tribute dinners.

The first dinner honors Chef Alejandro Ruiz of Casa Oaxaca, one of the most important figures in Mexico’s culinary scene. Casa Oaxaca is also a legend in the making, serving inventive local food that stays true to its roots while also helping to elevate the art of the local people. Casa Oaxaca is known as a popular destination for artists, perhaps most notably the beloved writer Gabriel García Márquez. Oaxacan cuisine is known for being some of the most sophisticated in the world, so the presence of Chef Ruiz and his colleagues at this honorary dinner is guaranteed to be a cultural and culinary experience for the ages.

The second dinner honors Chef Albert Adrià of Barcelona, widely agreed to be the world’s best pastry chef. Do you remember the world-famous Catalonian restaurant El Bulli? Chef Adrià and his brother Ferran Adrià were the two geniuses behind the restaurant ranked number one a record-breaking five times by Restaurant Magazine. Since El Bulli, Chef Adrià has opened five successful restaurants in Barcelona, all featuring diverse styles of cooking including Mexican. Mexico seems to be a favorite culinary destination of Chef Adrià, therefore it is only appropriate for him to be participating in this exquisite event set against the backdrop of the stunning Yucatán coastline.
